Ann White was one of seven people to sign a counter-petition in 1870 that opposed the incorporation of Rock Hill into a town. The seven petitions against incorporation owned four-fifths of the land that would be incorporated into the new town, and thus would have to pay the majority of the taxes. They lost this fight, and the town was official incorporated on February 26, 1870. Some members of the family, like James Spratt White, were in favor of incorporation. The White family owned a significant portion of the land that would be incorporated as part of the town; Ann wanted to avoid the extra taxes that would result from incorporation. After her husband died, Ann White took over management of the family's finances.
A new railroad was proposed to connect Augusta, Columbia, Charlotte, and points beyond. Initial plans called for the rail line to pass through nearby Ebenezer, a village which included the White’s church , an academy, and several homes. Citizens of Ebenezer, fearful that the new technology might frighten their cattle and threaten their children, protested. George White, seeing the value of the new technology, made an offer to provide a right-of-way through his farm. This was accepted, and the route of the rail line shifted eastward. George’s contract with the railroad, a copy of which still exists, called for him to provide grading of the rail line route through his farm.

After George's death on February 25, 1849, Ann continued making renovations until the cottage became a large two-story home. Ann was also able to afford an 1870s building project because of a considerable inheritance left to her by her older brother, Hiram Hutchison. George Pendleton White was the first owner of the White Home, which is named after his family. He died on February 25, 1849, of pneumonia which he caught while supervising his building crew that was working on preparing for a new railroad line. The White Home began as a one-room cottage, which is believed to have been built shortly before the White's obtained the property. There is a separate log cabin behind the house which was later used as a kitchen for the boarding house but does predate the property by a number of years.

After our wedding, we contacted the Police Department and they informed me that a request was never submitted for my wedding date, and there was no officer there that night. Again, when confronted, Matt was argumentative and would not take accountability for missing this important detail. In the end, many of my vendors would most likely not work with him again due to his attitude, and several guests told me that he was incredibly rude and unwelcoming. While I had an amazing time at my wedding, the planning period and post-wedding experience have been an absolute nightmare. We worked with Matt Starnes, who over-promised and under-delivered. During our first meeting, Matt assured us he would handle everything, including coordinating with vendors for us - he didn't.

What kind of settings are available?
When he saw the symbol of his brotherhood, he gave the command to retreat, and the family were saved. In response to the petition from some local residents asking for incorporation, several prominent residents sent a counter-petition against incorporation. Seven people, who owned 4/5th of the land that would become Rock Hill, gave several reasons for opposing incorporation. The land was covered by a pine grove, leading many locals to refer to the school as the Pine Grove Academy instead of by its official name. The school was located approximately 250 yards northeast of the White Home and a half mile from the railroad depot. In 1856, the Pine Grove Academy for girls was opened as well.

Her father was David Hutchison; the family lived on a plantation along the Catawba River. David Hutchison was one of the earliest white settlers to move onto Catawba Indian land.
Because of the probate laws, Ann was required to provide yearly reports and produce receipts for expenses and income for a number of years that George’s estate was in probate. These records have been preserved by the family, and provide us with an unusually detailed picture of the White family’s life. The stories that have been passed down through the generations are just as interesting as the photos and relics on display. For instance, one story says that the home was about to be torched by Union forces when a Northern general, who was a Mason, saw Ann White wearing her husband's Mason's ring.
